In-Person Classes – Staying Safe @ Seneca Hill

Our safety measures are above and beyond those of the guidelines provided by public health and the Ministry of Education. We consult regularly with medical experts, health service providers, and align our practices with government authorities and recommendations. Here are some of the measures that we have implemented:

  • We have enhanced our cleaning and sterilizing protocols. All high traffic areas including desks, handrails, door handles, and surfaces will be frequently washed and sterilized.
  • Students as always, will have plenty of outdoor time, gym time and social time with classmates.
  • Staggered pick-up and drop-off of students will take place at the main entrance doors.
  • Parents will be asked to wait at the door for their child. Parents will not be permitted in the school, unless absolutely necessary.

A complete and detailed safety policy will be shared with families. Overall, you can rest assured that it will be a safe place for them to learn.

Covid-19 FAQs

Will in-person classes be available if there is another wave of the pandemic?

While it is difficult to predict whether school closures will still be mandated by the province of Ontario, we are hopeful to have in-person learning available throughout the school year with significant safety protocols in place. We will also continue to have remote learning available to our students in the event that in-person learning is not possible.

How will the school operate to ensure everyone's safety in class?

The safety of all students, families and staff remains a top priority. We will be taking the following measures:

  • Pick-up and drop-off of students will take place at the main entrance doors and times will be staggered to minimize the traffic.
  • We have enhanced our cleaning and sterilizing protocols. All high traffic areas including desks, handrails, door handles, and surfaces will be frequently washed and sterilized.
  • HEPA air filters have been installed in each classroom.
  • Hand sanitizer dispensers have been installed throughout the school.
  • Any staff or student who is experiencing a fever or symptoms will be asked to stay at home and not permitted in the school until they have a clean bill of health.
  • We will be monitoring all government guidelines and adjusting our protocols accordingly.
Are masks required?

With COVID transmission in the community at low levels, we believe that the risk to our school community is low and we can safely make masking optional for staff and students. We do understand that wearing a mask is a personal choice and that many may wish to continue to wear their masks at school.

As a school, we will respect the personal choice of our families. You are welcome to send your child to school either wearing a mask or not wearing a mask. Our faculty and staff will also have the choice to wear a mask or not. We will respect each individual’s choice and no hateful commentary on masking will be tolerated.

What are the school day hours?

Our in-person academic program runs from 8:45am – 4:00pm. Extended morning hours for drop off are from 7:30am – 8:45am and extended afternoon hours for pick up run from 4:00pm – 6:00pm.

What will happen if there is another wave of the pandemic?

We understand concerns about another wave of the pandemic and will be prepared to move all classes to a virtual platform if necessary. We will continue to follow the requirements of government and public health authorities, while also having plans in place for a transition to virtual learning from in-person classes if necessary.

Are vaccines mandatory for staff and students?
While not mandatory, vaccines are strongly encouraged for all staff and students that are eligible.
What kind of ventilation is in the classrooms?
All classrooms have a mechanical exhaust system that allows for air circulation throughout the building. In addition, we have purchased HEPA air purifiers for all classrooms. These units efficiently remove a wide range of airborne pollutants and allergens, including dust, pollen, chemicals and gases.
